This policy explains what information The Watch Don ("we", "us"), a watch sourcing service based in Manitoba, Canada, collects through this website, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We keep it short because we collect very little.
What we collect
We only collect what you choose to send us through the request form:
- Contact details — your name, email address and, if you provide them, phone number, city and country, and preferred way to be contacted.
- Your request — the watch you're looking for, year or era, budget range, condition, box and papers, timeline, any notes, and details of a watch you'd like to trade in.
We do not use advertising or analytics cookies, and we do not track you across other websites. We don't ask for payment details on this website.
How we use it
- To respond to your request and search for the watch you've asked for.
- To contact you about that request by the method you prefer.
- To keep a record of our conversations and any purchase that follows.
We use your information because you've asked us to act on your request, and to take steps you've requested before entering into an agreement with you. We will not sell your information, and we won't send you marketing unless you ask us to.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of trusted service providers to run this website. They process data on our behalf and only as needed to provide their service:
- Supabase — stores the requests submitted through the form.
- Resend — delivers the email notification we receive when you submit a request.
- Vercel — hosts this website and may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for security and reliability.
When you view the site, your browser also loads watch images from WatchBase and fonts from Google Fonts, which means those services receive your IP address in the normal course of serving those files.
When we search for a watch on your behalf, we approach sellers without sharing your name or contact details. When we've negotiated a deal and you want to go ahead, we connect you with the seller so you can complete the purchase; we only share your name and contact details with them once you've agreed to this. We may disclose information if required by law.
Where your data is stored
Our providers may store and process data in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where required, they use recognised safeguards for international transfers.
How long we keep it
We keep requests for as long as needed to handle them and for a reasonable period afterwards in case you come back to us — typically up to 2 years — unless a longer period is required for legal, tax or accounting reasons. You can ask us to delete your request sooner at any time.
Your rights
Under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or withdraw your consent and ask us to delete it, subject to any legal requirements to keep it. To make a request, email hello@thewatchdon.com. We'll respond within 30 days. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Security
Requests are stored in a database that only our authorised admin account can access, and all connections to this website are encrypted. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
Children
This website is intended for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
